Over the weekend Semyon Bykov and Jade Hendrie competed at the 2022 National Age Groups, all the way down in Plymouth.
Over the 4 days they both competed all 3 boards, and Semyon also paired up with Jamie Lamplugh from Edinburgh Diving Club to compete in the 1m synchro event.
Semyon started the competition strong on Day 1 competing in the synchro with Jamie. Having only had 1 training session and only deciding to enter less than 24hrs before, the boys were naturals and put on an impressive performance to claim the Silver medal . Day 2-4 Semyon competed in all 3 Individual Group C boys events where he put in some very impressive consistent dives in all the training sessions. Unfortunately they weren't all able to be replicated in the competitions, but thats diving, that happens sometimes. It was a brilliant experience for him competing at his first British National Age Group competition, and even though the competition didnt go his way, he's made full use of the impressive dryland facilties in Plymouth and has learnt how to twist!! and is excited to bring that back home to Aberdeen and start applying it in the pool.
Jade was competing on days 2-4, also in all 3 Individual events. She had a steady start on the 1m, putting all her dives in consistently just missing a few entries needed to score the higher points. Day 3 was 3m where Jade not only got a massive 34.45 point PB (personal best), but even with an very low tariff in comparison to the rest, had some great entries while having accurate technique on each dive, she out dived the other 26 divers to become the Girls Group C 3m National Age Group Champion . The final day was platforms, where Jade put in some great dives and competed a dive from 5m that she'd only just relearnt a week prior, after several months of having mental block with.
