British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2019

Updated: Apr 16, 2022

At the start of April, Clara Kerr travelled down to Sheffield for the British Junior Elite Championships. This is the biggest event in the year for juniors and sees the best divers from all across the UK, and some international teams travelling to compete. As Clara had only just started to recover from ongoing injuries and was also moving up into a new age group, there were no expectations for Clara. She also had to juggle her training and competitions with revising for her Nat 5 exams which started the following week.

On the first day of competitions, Clara was competing in the Girls group A 1m event. She put together a very steady list and managed to qualify for the final. She then did some lovely dives in the final to finish 5th with a score of 320.50.

The second day of competitions saw Clara competing in the Girls group A platform event. Due to Clara’s injuries, she was using an easier list of dives than usual. She performed these beautifully but as her tariff was lower than others she finished 7th, just missing out on the final. A fantastic effort though.

Clara’s final event was the Girls group A 3m event. Clara’s first couple of dives were beautiful, but unfortunately made a mistake on one of her easier dives which put her down in the rankings. She then managed to bring it back with an outstanding last dive which allowed her to qualify for the final in 5th. She then went into the final and smashed all 4 of her dives and came away with the SILVER medal. This is an outstanding achievement and a MASSIVE PB. Well done Clara!!
